Liberals and Homosexuals Fight to End Ban on Visitors with HIV

Apparently we have been doing something positive (pardon the pun) on the immigration front by refusing entry–most of the time–to visitors or potential immigrants with HIV/AIDS. But if John Kerry and a Republican Senator from Oregon, Gordon Smith, have their way the ban will soon end:
A two-decade ban on people with HIV visiting or immigrating to the United States may end soon through a Senate bill aimed at fighting AIDS and other diseases in Africa and other poor areas of the world.
The U.S. is one of a dozen countries — including Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Russia — that ban travel and immigration for HIV-positive people.Even China, said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., recently changed that policy, deciding it was “time to move beyond an antiquated, knee-jerk reaction” to people with HIV.
“There’s no excuse for a law that stigmatizes a particular disease,” Kerry said Tuesday at a speech to the Center for Strategic & International Studies HIV/AIDS Task Force. Even people with avian flu or the Ebola virus have an easier time than those with HIV when it come to applying for visas, he said.
Kerry and Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., are trying to repeal the ban, first implemented in 1987 and confirmed by Congress in 1993. The two have attached their measure to legislation — which the Senate may pass this week — that would provide $50 billion over the next five years to fight AIDS and other diseases in Africa and other poor areas.
You’re right Senator Kerry, attempting to protect America and her citizens by keeping as many infected people out here is “no excuse.” Can you believe this moron was almost president?
I’m glad this issue as arisen because I have wanted to write about this for quite some time. Let’s discuss immigration and diseases.
In the course of the immigration debate we constantly hear from the amnesty crowd that “We’re a nation of immigrants.” Very true. But let’s really dive into this.
Where did the overwhelming majority of the post-Revolution immigrants first arrive? Answer: Ellis Island.
What happened at Ellis Island? Well the immigrants were first given a thorough medical evaluation. If it was determined that an immigrant had a serious and highly contagious disease the person was either turned away and sent back, or they were quarantined until declared healthy enough to integrate within the outside world.
What’s wrong with this policy? Absolutely nothing. It’s called protecting America and it ought to be a fundamental part of the immigration application system.
