Republican Senators Must Oppose Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court Nomination

By Josh Price

Why? Because she’s a radical leftist.

Here’s my case against her.

Exhibit A

She believes that that policy is made in the court system. Don’t believe me? Take a look:

She’s knows it was a mistake to vocalize her belief that Courts of Appeals make policy in this country. But listen to her sarcastic attempt to walk the comment back. She’s like “Yeah, I know shouldn’t have said that, but whatever. It’s the truth.”

That’s all Republicans should need to oppose her right there but there’s more evidence of Sotomayor’s radicalism.

Exhibit B

Judge Sotomayor apparently doesn’t believe in the equality that she preaches. How about this Robert Reich-esque statement:

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male…

Talk about identity politics. That is a racist statement, folks. Now I don’t care if she didn’t intend for it to be racist, the fact of the matter is that it is indeed racist and offensive. It certainly isn’t a statement of her belief in equality or inclusiveness. Can you say hypocritical?

Exhibit C

Let’s move on to some of her judicial opinions. For example:

The case, Ricci v. DeStefano, involved a group of 19 white firefighters and one Hispanic firefighter who filed suit in 2003 claiming that the city of New Haven, Conn., engaged in racial discrimination when it threw out the results of two promotion tests because none of the city’s black applicants had passed the tests.

Each of the plaintiffs had passed the exam.

The case is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The city threw out the results because it feared potential lawsuits from activist groups if few or no minority candidates were promoted. The city also claimed that in addition to potential lawsuits, promotions based on the test results would undermine their goal of diversity in the Fire Department.

Federal Judge Janet Bond Arterton rejected the firefighters’ appeal, siding with the city and saying that no racial discrimination had occurred because the city didn’t promote anyone at all.

U.S. Appeals Court Judge Sotomayor issued an order that affirmed Arterton’s decision, issuing a one-paragraph judgment that called Arterton’s ruling “thorough, thoughtful, and well reasoned,”

How is this not discrimination? Hmm, could it be due to the fact that the plaintiff’s were white and were suing on the basis of discrimination because they were denied admission due to the ineptitude of a few minorities? I’d say so. But that’s just one man’s opinion.

(As an aside, nothing like elevating the importance of diversity over the safety of citizens. Why was the goal of the city of New Haven to promote diversity and not trying to recruit the most qualified firefighters?

Answer: the perverted mental disorder known as liberalism.

Do you now understand I frequently state the liberalism is liable to kill us?–quite literally)

How about another case?

As a district court judge, Sotomayor also allowed a racial discrimination claim to continue when the plaintiff, a black nurse, sued Bellevue Hospital Corp because other nurses spoke mainly in Filipino, their native tongue, which she claimed made her feel harassed and isolated.

I wonder if the facts of this case were different, say–I don’t know–that a white nurse made a racial discrimination claim against Hispanic coworkers who were speaking Spanish, making the white nurse feel harassed and isolated, if Judge Sotomayor would have still allowed the case to go forward. Hmm. Questions. Questions.

So what will Senate Republicans do? Will they acquiesce to Chairman Obama, or will they fight him on this nomination?

By the way, George H.W. Bush sure did know how to pick conservative judges, didn’t he? He gave us David Souter and he nominated Sotomayor to the bench. You won’t hear that from most Republicans. They’ll try to keep that pretty quiet.

Well said on each point. As Dr. Dave often says, there are now two Americas. One of which, we prefer. It’s based on the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution, as it was written and amended.

The other America is represented by the POTUS, and this new SCOTUS nominee. It stands for socialism. It puts group rights ahead of individual rights, and splits us into Dash-Americans that are promptly set against each other.

For our America to live, nominations such as these should be defeated. If they win too many of these battles, our America will perish, and freedom will be forever snuffed out in the world.

Matt:

You are exactly right. For all of their talk about not seeing race, ethnicity, religion, etc., the leftists in this country are the ones who always insist upon identity politics, or Dash-Americans. I’m really tired of it. They can’t have it both ways.
