Freed Guantanomo Bay detainees flocking to Yemen to rejoin al-qaeda
According to the Times of London dozens of freed GITMO detainees have flocked to Yemen to rejoin al-qaeda (AQ) and its fight against the West.
At least a dozen former Guantánamo Bay inmates have rejoined al-Qaeda to fight in Yemen, The Times has learnt, amid growing concern over the ability of the country’s Government to accept almost 100 more former inmates from the detention centre.
A Yemeni, Hani Abdo Shaalan, who was released from Guantánamo in 2007, was killed in an airstrike on December 17, the Yemeni Government reported last week. The deputy head of al-Qaeda in the country is Said Ali al-Shihri, 36, who was released in 2007. Ibrahim Suleiman al-Rubaish, who was released in 2006, is a prominent ideologue featured on Yemeni al-Qaeda websites.
You see, you liberal vermin, these people were at GITMO for a reason: Because they’re terrorists!
Someone not mentioned in this article is Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born imam who is based in Yemen. He allegedly had contact with some of the 9/11 hijackers, as well as Ft. Hood terror suspect Nidal Hasan.
So why are they relocating to Yemen? Chiefly, the Yemeni government is weak and distracted with a Saudi Arbia-Iran proxy war being fought in the north. Yemen is also made up of several lawless tribal regions much like Afghanistan and Pakistan. This appears to be the criteria being used by AQ for determining base locations.
With this in mind, the Obama administration still plans to close GITMO. What’s more, they’re planning to send the Yemeni detainees back to their home country (at least on a case by case basis).
Anyone believe that’s sound national security policy?
